— Preliminary Rounds on April 28 and 29 with the Finale on May 6–

Dance groups from throughout Southern California will meet and compete during Fiesta de Reyes Folklorico Competition on three days spanning through the end of April and the first Sunday in May. Folklorico is a traditional Latin American dance that emphasizes local folk culture with ballet characteristics.

“There will be ten outstanding dance groups from different schools within Southern California that will share their talents and compete for $1,000 prize,” said Chuck Ross, the owner and operator of Fiesta de Reyes. “All of the performances are sure to impress and will feature a lot of charisma, color and culture.”

On Saturday, April 28 and Sunday, April 29 from noon to 4 p.m., the five groups on each day will each have 30 minutes to perform their best dances, representing many different regional styles of ballet folklorico. Two finalists from each day will be selected to advance on to the finals.

A week later, on Sunday, May 6 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the four finalists will return to Fiesta de Reyes during the Cinco de Mayo celebration weekend to compete for the folklorico competition title and a $1,000 prize. In addition to the folklorico entertainment, the finals will be hosted by Univision’s Gabriel Sotelo.

The competition is free for the public to attend and will take place in Old Town San Diego State Historic Park. For more information, visit www.fiestadereyes.com.
